    Default Another knife completed

    Hey all,

Few of you had expressed interest in seeing a few progress pictures of some knife making, so I figured I'd start posting some pics.

Here is a 1943(ish) WW2 Cattaragus 225Q military/hunting knife that I have just finished a resto/mod on. 6" blade, 4.5" handle, it's a big knife! Reground the blade to have a convex grind rather than the original saber flat grind. All new leather for the handle, and fixed up the steel hardware. I made a new leather sheath for it to, but forgot to take pictures of that...

New leather handle being glued up. These are individual squares, with a slot cut in them for the knife tang to fit through.

Handle has been rough-shaped using my homemade belt grinder.

Some nut brown leather dye, and several coats of Sno-Seal waterproofing, and here is the final product, shown beside an identical knife that I am working on for my youngest brother. His knife looks a little better than what I started with for mine (I've also done the first grind/sharpen on his in these pics which is why the edge is so shiny).

I am indeed stuck doing house reno's, working on my new-to-me(40 year old) boat, getting my truck back together (turbo rebuild with some related goodies), and trying to sell my old boat to clear up space in my garage to set up a work space.

As soon as I'm able to, I'll be making sharp things again.

So BigWhiteFord did you get all settled in to a new shop? I've never seen the leather handled knife made before, amazing!
Is this a hobby shop? Or professional? I ask cause I'd like to drop by and ask some questions and see how you do this.
I live on Vr Isl, but get over to visit ATEB in Burnaby every couple of months.

I have an old ex military knife like the first one I got as a kid in WA state

when I get the funds I'll have to see what it would cost for you to restore it, all the leather on the handle fell off...
