Plan to go for sure. In mid spring or begining of fall, just to try to be out of bug season.

but just do not know what year!

surfing for completion info and came across this:
"The final grading and surfacing work, as well as the installation of traffic signs and guardrails, is expected to be complete by next summer with the entire project finished by fall 2017."

    source: http://www.rocktoroad.com/roads-pavi...on-season-4932

but funny thing is, I'm actually now thinking it would be fun to go in April of this year to catch the end of the ice road. If we could swing 2 wks ... then again it is a looong drive.

as for bugs, wasn't too bad for us last 2 weeks in July (dempster and air to tuk) but I'd guess end aug would be best. as for this summer, I wonder if they'll be fewer roadside camp spots avail. what with "first" tourists and continuing construction (storage, quarries).

hey Rebellion, did you get hooked up with a camper ?

Yes, having one built by Overland Explorer: http://overlandex.com/

Should be ready for mid April. I intend to head south late April to EXPO West then follow summer north

It will be great if they extend the James Bay Road further north one day too. It would be to be able to drive to the top of Nunavik..
