    Default Non RV Park Camping

Wonder if there's any source of information anyone can provide on camping (roof top tent camping) not in RV parks and maybe not in commercial campgrounds in eastern Canada.

    Thanks,
    Richard

GravelTravel.ca has lots of GPS files for routes, most of which have back country camping along a large majority of the route.

    Common sense obviously applies though.

What kind of camping are you looking for?

Out here, camping can be as simple as finding a quiet spot off the path to pull over for a night or five
If one wishes to "step it up" a bit there are forest service sites (user maintained) that have basic pit toilets and a picnic table. Might see a guy pop around once every two or three weeks to tidy things up a little (no charge)

It just goes up in service and fees from there...

Many really good spots are simply undocumented. It takes a sense of adventure and a keen eye to locate those ones... Sometimes one has to settle for the less than ideal spot (pullout on the logging road) for a night until the perfect spot has been located.

There is a BackRoads Mapbook for Ontario. It will have topo maps and all the provincial parks, the non supported recreational sites - (which is what I think you are looking for)
but from my experience just start looking when you get close to the time you want to camp. Lots of little lakes, side roads, old road building rock 'borrow' pits are great short
    term over night spots.

If Ontario counts as eastern Canada, my favorite source of information is Ontario Crown land maps: http://www.giscoeapp.lrc.gov.on.ca/C...A&locale=en-US . It's a little bit slow, but you can camp anywhere on Crown land.
