Electronic issues seem to be common with Liberty models mainly, speed sensors in particular on early ones. Lot of mechanical issues I saw were connected to failed electronics.

So this is a really old thread but I thought I'd chime in as we own a 2006 Liberty. In short...it has been one of the best 4x4's I've ever owned. I might be in the minority but it has been very reliable and we've not had any major issues with it at all. Now its not a dedicated off road rig and I couldn't comment on to how well the stock drivetrain would hold up to even minor wheeling but for running around FSR's and exploring the odd two track trail....its been great.

Mine is my daily driver and I hope to get a few years out of it yet.
