Hey everyone. I'm new here and new to overland. I've been dreaming of doing this stuff for years! I'm still building up my first overland vehicle (pics below). I've got three young kids that I'd like to share the experience with (trips and time wrenching in the garage). So far I've learned a lot. I built a garage, bought a welder, and just went at it. I've also swapped an engine and learned a lot about Jeep Cherokee's. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting "out there" and meeting a few people!

I needed a place to wrench!

In over my head and hoping for the best!

After a bunch of parts and all my spare time spread over 1.5 years ( which is limited ), I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I built everything including the bumpers, sliders, painted with Tremclad, and a whole lot more...

Hopefully I'll be ready for summer 2013 !

    UPDATE (Jan 2017):
I finished this for summer 2013. A lot has happened and I've had good times with the Jeep.
    All my Jeep photos here!

You're quite right, letting him go bare feet in the garage isn't the best parenting move... especially considering the amount of metal shavings I've sweept out of there.

I hope so too! I've got to build some bumpers with recovery points and whatnot. It should probably take me a couple months but I've learned by now that I need to double the time I *think* it should take.

When I'm done, I'm gonna need a hand figuing out where the trails are!

Looking forward to your build thread
I plan on posting a build thread when it's complete! I like reading build threads that go from start to finish without a major time lapse so I'll do it all at once.

Welcome! Just had a look at your website and saw you link to the "Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR)".

Didn't know it existed and now high on the list for next year!

TX! and good luck with the rest of the build

Cool. I'm learning about the WIPSAW on here... never really knew about it.

I'm looking forward to doing the WABDR. Here are some youtube videos about it:

    Thanks Mike!

Having a garage is awesome. It's where I hide out when I need a moment of sanity at the end of the day. The final straw was changing my timing belt on my Audi (wish I never sold it) in the middle of December without a garage (the tensioner broke).

I'm in the NW (Tuscany). Do you head out with any groups/clubs? Maybe I'll see ya out there.

No I haven't yet. Been primarily taking my camp trailer out on any backroad. Did a loop up to Prince George, then down to Nelson and back in the summer. Could have used more back roads for that trip though.

    Haven't been out much otherwise.
