My 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

We bought this Grand Cherokee in 2003 and it became our family vehicle even as I lifted it 2"... then 3.5". My wife was very patient with me and didn't complain getting in and out even when she was pregnant... to which I'm thankful for. We bought the family mini-van in spring of 2007 which paved the way for the Grand Cherokee to begin it's transformation to a dedicated offroad vehicle. I did daily drive if up until spring of 2008, but now it waits patiently for it's next outting or modification.

It's been an awesome Jeep since we bought it bone stock except for the never ending oil leaks... so in spring 2008 I replaced every possible gasket & seal (except for head gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets) and replaced timing chains, oil pump etc... not it's perfectly dry underneath... I love it!! Anyhow... on to a bit of info for you...

I think a huge tube bumper would be great, with a stinger too :poke:

That thing is huge... maybe I'll make a bigger one that incorporates a kitchen sink...

I think a built in toilet would be more appropriate...

There's an idea... hmmm... a cushy offroad toilet... I like that! Maybe add some steering wheel and pedal controls while I'm at it... would be a perfect seat!

Finished building my 231 t-case with the slip yoke eliminator and also the Tera 2wd low conversion. Hope to install it pretty quick and order driveshafts.

Also bought an XJ Dana 44 that I'll build up in the next year or so along with the High Pinion Dana 30 I already have.

Have lots of opportunity to spend money on this Jeep... :D

Well... today I had some help from Steve... we tore down the HP30 and found I need some lower control arm brackets for sure... rusted through. Also plasma'd off all the bracketry off a ZJ rear axle I had saved just for the brackets... and they're for the Dana 44. Did a bit of spring cleaning in the garage and I'm ready to toss in the 231 t-case this week and measure up for my new driveshafts etc. Fun times!

Oh... also updated the first post with my latest dreams and future plans!

Very Nice! Get a winch on that baby though! That way you're sure to never need one.

Ah, but to mount a winch, Kelly would first require a bumper, and Kelly's been without a bumper for as long as I can remember

Yeah... would be nice. I know what you mean, get a jack and never need one, get 2 spares never need them etc...

The man speaks the truth!

Actually, I was thinking of trimming the bumper cover like mad and putting it on to clean it up for now... been "planning" the front bumper for long enough to know it's not happening for a little while. ;)

Kelly, your jeep wouldn't look "right" if you actually put a bumper on!

Oh.. put the Dana 44a in the back end today.... not easy to do alone... but it's in! Just have to do the brakes etc... and then I have a limited slip diff in a little bit tougher axle until my all steel Dana 44 is done!!

:headspin:

AxelR

I don't know much about Jeeps. Does the Dana 44a have the aluminum diff or something like that. Is that what the a means?

TheOtherSide
03-18-2009, 10:54 PM
Yep... the diff housing is aluminum. Has very little aftermarket support... gears are expensive and I believe the only locker you can get is an Aussie.... it's not the same as a typical Dana 44. It's a temp upgrade for me as my DD needs axle work... so I'm doing musical chairs with axles...:D

Should have let me know I did not end up getting anything done on my truck in the rain tonight. I could have helped, good to learn the working of your friends trucks (Jeeps). :headspin:

My brother had a truck similar to yours. I recall him complaining about some aluminum axle he had. Limited slip will be nice though. What are you running in front?

Front is the stock Dana 30 with a low pinion... works good so far.

Finally got a chance to get stuff done last night. I had to shorten the t-case shifter linkage to fit the 231 case. Adjusted the rear trackbar and rolled it out for a test drive. Really hard to get the t-case shifted at first likely due to oiling.... but after a km or so, it got more smooth.

Wow... what a different truck with 2wd. It's been a AWD truck up to now, so it reacts differently as a 2wd truck when you step on it.

No unusual noises or anything from the new diff so now I have to replace the t-stat and put a permit on it so I can drive to work with it for a day and ensure there are no bugs to work out.

It's almost trail ready!!!

It's almost trail worthy!!!

Busy day today...
Installed the new CB
Trimmed like mad, and installed stock front bumper (after 3 years)
replaced the t-case shifter bezel to match the new t-case
oiled up my cleaned K&N and fired it in.

Very little to do... and it's gonna be done!!

Yes, you heard right... front bumper is on!!!!!

So I sold the 95 Grand Cherokee Daily Driver.... and seeing that this ZJ had failed aircare a while back... popped a new cat converter in it and it flew through aircare.

So this beast is back on the road as my daily driver... fun fun!!
