Alright so tomorrow (Sunday) I'm taking my girlfriend up for a day of birthday skiing/boarding at Hemlock Valley. Planning to ski till the early afternoon, head down and grab a Samsqwamch burger at the Sasquatch Inn, then hopefully do some exploring in the area with whatever daylight is left.

Is Chehalis Rd even worth heading up for an hour or two with the closures etc? Maybe a quick jaunt up Fleetwood FSR? Maybe one or two of the side FSR's off the Hemlock Valley Ski Area road? (lower elevations of course).

I've never been in the area, would love to explore with whatever afternoon we have left. Worst case scenario is that we have a good day of skiing and get a bad case of madcow from an imitation sasquatch patty;)

It's a pretty nice area... but I don't really know the status of the trail. I do understand that it was a pretty big slide in the area last year I believe... so I haven't bothered trying to head up there. There is always West Harrison that we've all been to 100 times by now... but there is always more to explore in that area if you looked around.

Have a fun day!! Would love to head up tomorrow and play, but I have a broken Jeep and kids birthday parties to go to!!

Enjoy your day!

Well, had a pretty decent day on the mountain, was a bit icy but overall decent.

Ended up going up the Chehalis-Fleetwood FSR, then branching out onto a fresh side-road. All of the trees had been cut but not taken away, as well as the road still had green bows sticking out of the dirt, so it must have been fairly fresh. The weird thing is we came across this super old trashed cabin, who knows how it was accessed before this road?? During this trip my power steering decided to just stop working. The fluid is still topped up, and I didn't hear any bad noises etc. The fluid was super murky/muddy though so that may be a problem. Any ideas? (1992 V6 4-runner)

I'm suprised there is such little snow up there. That old cabin looks cool as well as the old Power Wagon on its side. That is a very fresh cut they have not even pulled the logs off yet.

As for the Power Stering, I would look at the pump first. Dose it have ATF Dextron III in the system or did some one put in Power Steering fluid? Once the truck cooled off did the PS come back?

The steering hasnt come back, and I'm not sure as to what's in the system currently either. Is it supposed to be dextron III?

Yes, check the pump. You shouls be able to see fluid cerculating. From there start looking at the steering box. It may also be a collaped Hi pressure line?

If its got Power sterring fluid and not ATF you will need to change it all anyways.

Yes be sure to use PS fluid, some cars you can use ATF (type F is usually best for PS) but unless you know that for sure I would use the proper PS fluid.

Not likely a collapsed line, if that were the case the PS pump would be loud as it would be trying to overcome the resistance. As Jeremy said check to see if the fluid is circulating, if it isn't, it's most likely the pump. if it is circulating, probably the box. My bet is you probably have a bad pump.

Yeah Toyota used ATF for PS fluid in all there cars. DO NOT USE POWER STEERING FLUID. I have done that before and $1200 later I had all fixed.

What a pain!

At first it looked like the soleniod for the pressure valve wasn't working, the problem with this is that Alldata only shows info for the US imports and not the CDN ones. I'm guessing that US 4runner's in 1992 didn't have rear ABS that was integrated in with the PS pump. The pressure solenoid on my truck was located as apart of the ABS module, sure enough the soleniod isn't sold seperately from the module ($2350 from Toyota, $150 from a wrecker). Also apparently Toyota has never sold a module and there is only 5 in stock in North America right now. Luckily enough a Fenco (:poke:) re-man PS pump itself was $150 from Lordco so I ordered one of those instead and had the guys in the shop throw it in. Fixed! (feels better than ever actually)

Just odd that the pump failed with no other symptoms - other than not working. (no noises or leaks etc)

And yes, used ATF. Thanks guys.
