My favorite photo...
Updated my profile... 8.8 is in.
So everything went fairly smooth with the 8.8 install today. I may need to change my exhaust, as the driveshaft is very close to touching the muffler and it's due for replacement anyways.
The detroit is a bit noisy, not bad at all. The biggest noise is when shifting from reverse to forward or vise versa, it really bangs then. I'm sure I'll be thrilled on the trails now. If the radio is on you won't hear an thing.
Now with 4 wheel disc brakes it stops on a dime now, that's worth the swap there. Something the XJ was lacking in, good brakes, not anymore!!:D

You gotta see those leaf spring brackets.... they're super tough.
So I went and lifted the front of the truck up a bit more via spring spacers to level it out with the rear. Looks good, I'm happy with the results, the rear may be 1/2" or a bit more higer which I like as it'll level off when loading it. Now I just have to compensate and add some bumpstops. Hopfully I won't have my front tires locking up in my inner fenders when stuffing them :D.
I also pulled a Jeremy (sorry bud..couldn't resist) and bought the wrong size shocks thinking my existing ones were shorter...but their moreless the same length. My existing BDS shocks are 10" (I thought they we're 8") but when compressed their actually shorther than my new 9.5" Bilsteins. So I have brand new Bilsteins that I'm going to have to sell off, cuz I don't see much point in putting them in. I'll have to figure out the right shock to put in as my bumpstops are going to stop my shocks from using the 10" that they have. Probably only going to get 7 maybe 8 out of them.
I also took my exhaust off and put on my Flowmaster 50 with a turndown for a tail pipe as I won't have time to make one up any time soon. Damn it's loud..it drones like mad when accelerating. Very nice when cruising. I'll have to make that tailpipe soon as it should help... I hope.
 Fun Fun!

Well I haven't posted much on the forum recently as I've been pretty busy, but I still have been plugging away with little things on the XJ.
- The winch still isn't 100% done as I've been slowly fabricatiing a cover to protect the sythetic rope. That being said all I would have to do to get it working is install the rope and hook up a few wires to get it going if I needed to. I hope to have the cover done soon as it's 80% done.
- Back in January I ordered and installed some new motor mounts (http://browndogindustries.com/cu2572-0Kmotormountsultra-flexrubber-1.aspx) from Brown Dog Industries and a while after I was poking around the Jeep only to notice that 2 of the 3 bolts holding the right side motor mount bracket on we're sheered . So I called up Brown Dog (24 hrs technical service....wow) and he hooked me up with some new brackets (http://browndogindustries.com/s2572-psuperbracketspair.aspx)at a package price since I just bought his mounts. That plus he sent me a new left motor mount at no extra charge since the one I got doesn't work with his brackets.....how's that for service!!
Getting the broken bolts out required me to lower the motor down do get access to them with the drill as there's not much space there, not even enough room for a 90 degree drill. They came out pretty easy with an extractor set since they broke due to load rather than being seized.
- Since I put in the Ford 8.8 axle my ABS was usless so I removed the ABS unit from under the hood. This required me to get parts from a porportioning valve from a non ABS XJ. The ABS unit is also the distribution block for the front brakes but the porportioning valve is for non ABS XJ's. So I just swaped over the necessary part and bent up some lines and it's good to go.
The plan is to put a K&N air filter in the ABS unit's place so I can put a second battery in place of my factory air cleaner box.
- PA had a nice aluminum roof rack on sale for half price. I went and checked it out and I was impressed, it wasn't a PA brand, 25lbs, painted black and very sturdy all for $100...I couldn't say no.
- I bought the required materials (and a bench top drill press :D) to make some rock sliders and will get started on that soon.
- I bought this (http://www.hdoffroadengineering.com/collections/frontpage/products/xj-frame-stiffener-set) and this (http://www.hdoffroadengineering.com/collections/frontpage/products/xj-shackle-relocation-kit) and this (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/medium-axle-truss-p-436.html) and this (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/dana-30-38-one-piece-diff-cover-p-151.html) and will be buying 4.88 gears and an ARB for the front. I'm hoping to get everything installed over the next winter when I get the garage back as we replaced the minivan with a new Nissan Pathfinder, so the family is set with a 4x4 now. I may also upgrade to some longarms (http://tntcustoms.com/y-linkupgradexj.aspx)too ( Wes??)

Looks like you got lots of welding to do! Lots of practice before you start, also be careful welding the the think reinforcements to the thin uni body, maybe easy to blow though. Going to be a busy winter from the looks of it, good selection of parts and mods.

The reinforcements arn't that thick incomparison to the uniframe. I'm mostly concerened of my overhead welding skills.
I have a front axle on the side of the house to mod before I take the Jeep off the road, so all I'll have to do is rear axle gears and perch's and the frame stiffeners. Hopefully won't be much down time. First thing is to get the garage back...
