Not too exciting, but had to get some content posted!
A buddy and I just wanted to get some fresh air and take the girlfriends out for a nice drive. He has an '86 Toy P/U with a 6' lift and 33' BFG's, I have a stockish '92 Runner. We haven't really been up to the west side of Stave Lake at all before and wanted to at least check the area out. It's true about the crowds and crazies, even in winter...

We drove up as far as the main road would take us, it was plowed all the way to the Allouette Pump Hose (close to where Allouette Lake almost meets Stave Lake). Any side road that wasn't gated, had a 4 ft wall of snow to drive though so we were contained to the main road. Some of the smaller lakes you drive by up there were still frozen over, although I'm sure the ice is thin. We did manage to get a pretty good view of what I beleive to be the south side of Mt Robbie Reid (Elevation: 6,900 ft)

We decided to leave the "crowds" and head over to Sylvester Rd/Lost Creek and try our luck there. (This is now the East side of Stave Lake). There were still some ATV/DB'ers but not nearly as many as the other side of the lake.
Lost Creek FSR was plowed the entire way, none of the smaller side roads appeared to have been plowed. The snow was very old, and on this warm afternoon, pretty sticky and heavy as well, there was about 10" or less still present at elevations under 1000ft in this area.

After exploring some minor side roads and trails and not having too much trouble (in the tree cover there's not much snow) we followed a road that led off into a logged clearing with some forks etc to other areas. At the end of one the trails we located a ditched/burnt vehicle. (Apparently not too uncommon in this area) You couldn't even tell what colour it was, but the vehicle was a 2002'ish cavalier, noted thanks to the shape of the taillights/headlights. Rather than using it for target practice unlike some other yahoo's, we managed to get the plate # off the melted/warped plates.

My buddy had a mishap with the snow ruts and a ditch, first person to get stuck that day! Luckily I received a new tow strap for christmas! Hooked him up and out she came, and we were on our way. This was my first tow of another stuck truck, my other tow's only include bad drivers in farm ditches.

It was close to sunset so we took a couple of photos and headed home to watch a cheesy DVD movie called Sasquatch (filmed in Squamish). Oh yeah, I reported the cavalier's plate # to Mission RCMP and sure enough it was reported stolen, nobody had called it in yet. (we weren't the only ones that left tire marks). Hopefully they'll take that pile of garbage out of there... All in all, a good escape to the bush, hopefully more to come this winter. It'd be nice to see the north end of Stave Lake and explore those roads.
