Well I did a little solo exploration of the Starvation lake trail today. I figured I bettter go do it before it gets shut down permanently and I needed to do a bit of a shakedown run before my bible camp trip next weekend.

Great little trail but I can see why CN keeps blocking access. Crossing the railway tracks on the trail is "Spooky".

The trail is pretty clean and so is the lake. I also like the fact that it is a loop. You finish on highway 99 and can just drive home from there. Although the trail is a bit short (just shy of 6km) it would be a pretty good outing for a stock jeep or something moderately modified. I would recommend at least one locker (or winch) or there are spots you will have to beat on your rig a little.

It is mostly rocky steps on the way to the lake with a couple squeeze points by the tracks. After the lake you climb steeply up to the highway and there is a rock ledge you need to negotiate about halfway. The road drops off steeply on your right as you climb to the lookout point. The views are awesome. The gate at the highway exit was locked but was very easy to get around (for now).

Unfortunately I was by myself so I didn't really take any pics. I did get one looking back down to the lake on the climb out.

I highly recommend you go do this while you still can. Just be VERY careful crossing the tracks.

I passed you on the 99 around Porteau twice on Saturday (going up & coming back), I was heading down to the city.
I was wondering where you were headed. Thats a fun trail, I know what you mean about the tracks though. I do the stop listen look.....GO GO GO!!!
