K. I have a dilema. I have one thing I really don't like on my Rubicon. The third brake light is in the way. Well not really but is right in my view in the reaview mirror. Now the dilema is, the mount for it is part of the spare tire carrier and its casted right to it actually the whole carrier is cast. So that said, if I cut it off, it's gone for good. Now this may seem like not much of a big deal but I am thinking that in the future if I sell the rubicon or something that might be a problem. Wait a mintue! What the hell am I thinking  I am never selling that thing so it's cominng off tomorrow. LOL!!!

Unless there is someone out there that can tell me whether or not there is a legal reason for not doing. Like, am I gonna get nailed by the cops or ICBC for not having or something like that?

Hate to say it...but it's there for a reason. Brake lights are a safty feature, keep it. I'd research it, I bet somebody has a better alternative.

Well I have done some looking around and have not found anything saying it is mandatory or anything. I am with you on the safety thing. I agree it is there for a reason, but the way I am looking at it (literaly) :) is, it is in my field of view while driving and backing up, so what is worse? running into something or someone? or not having the light. I am not sure. I will keep digging but I a leaning towards the removal of it. Thanks for your input it is taken into cosideration.

It's MANDATORY. That is why EVERY car sold in Canada has one. Leave it on.

What do you think ICBC is going to say when you get rear ended by some soccer mom on her cell phone and they see you cut off your brake light?:poke::slap:

This is from the cop over on BC4x4.

Modify it, but keep it legal. You might get away with moving it. I don't know where though. Not worth the risk IMO.

I say cut it if it really bugs you but put a third light some where to keep it legal/safe. If you do sell it it will effect your sale if they notice.

I have my BC Vehicle Inspection Certification... and it's manditory to have a high mount (aka 3rd brakelight) on every vehicle. It's been manditory for manufacturers to install them from the factory since 1987.

Mod it, but do not remove it. Personally, I'd just leave it and get used to it... but that's just me.

I can't find the written law at this minute... but it's there.

Living with it is what I will do. I don't wanna do anything that will cause grief for me or anyone else down the road. Just would be nice if it could be relocated or something, but how it is made that won't happen. So it will have to remain in the way. Anyway thanks all for the replies. Guess this was a pretty quick, not thought of enough, idea. But what the heck that is why we are all here right? for advice etc... Thanks all!
