well after many months....actually more like 2 years....of searching i found my new Jeep. i have been looking for a Grand Wagoneer for a long time. had to get the right year to get the axles i wanted and also the big motor. of course here in canada the rust demon is always an issue. so after searching every online classified and forum and finding lots of GW's that were way over priced or in too bad of condition i finally found her.

1990, 192000km, 360, 3 spd auto, quadratrac, D-44's front and back, 4" lift on 33's, loaded and in mint condition.

i am sure this will pull my little 'overlanding' trailer no problem. and more room for "stuff". plans for now, a good clean up, complete tune up and replace things like hoses, belts, brakes, blah blah blah. just make it as reliable as possible. i like the look of 33's but may see what it will take to squeeze 35's under it. put the 35's off my YJ on it so i can get 37's for the YJ. now that i have the GW the YJ wont see much road duty.

now i stil lhave 2 weeks to go before i even see it in person, i am still in india at work and have 14 days left to plan the "new build".

cheers guys,

That thing is awesome! Not my style but I can appreciate it. Does it have the older style grille? I really like that grille. I love the wood panelling.

i found it in central alberta but it is originally a van. island truck. i am not looking forward to re-insuring it in B.C. it needs a windshield and who knows what else the dam inspection place will come up with. i will just go over it completely before i even take it in for inspection.

just 11 more shifts before i get off this tub. of course it takes me 3 full days to get home....one 25 minute helicopter ride, one hour long bus ride from hell, 2 domestic flights in india, 1 flight to london, 1 flight to vancouver, then the last flight to kelowna, then a one hour drive home to vernon....then a couple whiskeys and bed. then move into the new house on the thursday, fly to edmonton on friday, pick up GW on sunday the 24th...phewwww, then the 10 hour drive home with it. way too much travel. has anyone else ever gone 20,000 miles to get a Jeep?

i plan on taking some basic tools with me and will pick up all the parts for a quick tune up in edmonton. belts, plugs and plug wires, cap and rotor, probably rad and heater hoses, fuel filter, air filter, i'll drive through a quick oil change place with it on the way somewhere. should be a fun road trip:confused:

oh i'm on the way to get it in my head already. booked the flights from kelowna to edmonton yesterday. gonna hook up with an old girlfriend for a night or two there (gotta be done, especially after 5 weeks at sea) and the owner is meeting me in red deer on sunday may 24th. i will get lots of pics of it then and let everyone know how the trip home to the okanagan goes...shouldnt even say anything for fear of jinxing things (seamen are superstitious) but i hope the trip home is uneventful, knock on wood. doing it alone will give me time to get to know my new baby.

3 days to get home? Ouch!! No way I could handle that.

But damn... I love that truck, I keep going back to look at the pictures, I might have to find one myself and get rid of our mini van.:D

the three days travel sucks but then i get 5 full weeks at home off to work on th beast so that sort of makes up for it for me.

and speaking of looking for another one...the one i bought actually came with a 2nd parts truck... the second is an 89 GW, 360, auto, D-44's front and back. same colors as the one in the pics but it is quite a bit rougher but it runs and drives. once trailer it home i will see what kind of condition it is actually in and post some pics of it too. if it is real rough i'll just use it for parts but if it can be saved i'll sell it as a whole.

I've been thinking recently about replacing the Grand Cherokee with a larger truck... like maybe a Grand Wagoneer, or maybe full size Bronco or Blazer... or even a Burb... running out of room very quickly with the 3rd kiddo coming in June...

Let me know if you decide to sell the rougher one... you never know... but a Burb sounds like a lot of space ya know!! :D

the drive from red deer was great. actually went over to medicine hat first and then used a day there to do some work on it. belts, hoses, batt, wires, plugs, oil and filtre.

it has a pretty bad t-case rear output shaft leak i will have to deal with asap. i am on the hunt for a dana 300 if anyone has one.

cheers guys

i am taking it to MOAB in september as a tow rig to pull the trailer the yj rides on. i may wheel the Waggy a bit on some easy trails. i LOVE this truck.

here are some pics of the newly completed bumper with swing-out tire carrier. it is super beefy, 1/2" plate for shackle mounts that are welded through to the front side of the bumper as well and run down the frame rails of the jeep. 10 x grade 8 bolts hold this thing on. the 4" hole is for an additional reverse light and as you can see i put the trailer plug right into the bumper for ease of use. just have to make a license plate bracket and CB antenna mount.

Looks great...

How are you liking the KM2's?

i've had the KM2's for a year and a half. they started out on my YJ then onto the Waggy when the YJ got IROKS. They are awesome. one of the best snow wheelin tires i've had and they are wearing great...they didnt see much rock wheelin before i put them on the waggy so i cant comment there. i have heard about sidewall tears on them but have not experienced it. i siped them from brand new as i do with all mud terains. i ran them all winter on the waggy in ice and snow and never had a scary moment. i am sure the siping helps them last longer as they should run cooler and flex better so less scrubbing. these tires have 15 to 20,000km's on them and are virtually like new. i would recomend them and i will be buying them again....but next time i'll get 37's.

almost forgot, just ordered ARB locker for the front and lock-right for the rear. so i'll have them in before i go to MOAb in sept and will actually get to wheel the Waggy as well as the YJ....SA-WEET! wheelin an FSJ, that means i can take passengers and talk and everything while wheelin. that will be a whole new experience compared to the noisey, no rear seat YJ.

looking good! i hope by repaint you don't plan to get rid of the wood! i'd like to see the trailer painted in a dark blue with some stick on wood to match. Only thing i dont like here is your mileage :S no plans to convert to bbq fuel or diesel?

i like the wood grain myself but i'm sorry to say it has got to go. all the small rivet holes that the plastic (wood) grain trim is held on with are where the rust has started. i am taking the whole jeep to bare metal and welding the holes over. then she will be painted "Bright White" it's an older jeep color to match the YJ and camping trailer.

as for conversion to a different fuel...are you kidding? i just spent $6000.00 on rebuilding that 360 to run like a new engine on good ole gasoline. if i knew then what i know now and all that, sure i might have went with a cummins but it's too late now.

A few guys in Ontario are running Cummins in their FSJ's and love them!:poke:
