Sounds big?

smaller then what I usaly have

we have just made some big life changes

one I will be riding the bus ugh for the next month
reduced our house hold deblt load by about 900 a month by getting rid of comforts that are not needed
went and got some kid issues dealt with at court (the gov thought my son still lived with his mother been with me for 2 years now)

sold off all my ford parts quit about 6 4x4 websites
handed control of the money to my wife
monday moring I am gonna quit the smoking

and found a already built rig that just needs some tlc and maintance for a killer deal that the wife after spending a night doing research told me I should buy

my wife and kids have been realy upset this year saying I am no fun and they where right all I do is build build build
they really wanted to get out and do something camping- offroad for a day anything they said but I have been the stick in the mud

Time for something differnt

Good luck! I hate to subscribe to yet another Reaper build but there so fast and entertaining.

I hope this one last and I'm glad to hear about the changes in your life. Family always needs to come before trivial things.

If you are getting it in a month that still leaves lots of weekends to use it.

I know I know I know

lol

I am tired of being the guy who never holds onto or get the truck off road
for one I always seem to make some sort of excuse as to why i cant go out
and i am somewaht of antisocial person till i get in the group of people then i am fine its the getting out part
never been good at making freinds yet i seem to get along with people just fine once i get over the whole meeting them

I am kinda leaving my self the month with out a vehicle for a cleansing

So as much as this is a build/buy repair thread it is also a build repair myself thread

I have agreed to alow my son ,wife and mother to hold me acountable for the things I say i will do with them and things I wont do
the new vehicle will be in the wifes name so i will not be able to sell it off with out first confronting her (scary thought right there) my mother has the garage keys so unless there is a plan to do something i canot spend all my weekends in there

So on with some details

Sounds more like a familly intervention.

My question to you is,in the second photo you can clearly see the roof is caved in.Why is that? Those trucks are unibody IIRC and flexed like that would lead me to believe its been "wheeled" ad i would be concerned the body may be twisted. Its common on those. Are you at least able to kick tires before delivery?

The roof was caved in from bad spare tire placment (or lack of being secured nicely lol)

the has been wheeled but has had frame stiffeners

and I had a family memeber kick the tires for me

for the price the body could be a pretzel and it would still be worth it

I couldnt by the tires at my cost for what i am paying for the hole thing

Do you already have someone shipping it, or are you still looking? If so, PM me here or on bc4x4 and I can probably set you up with a way to get it down here. The company I work for specializes in LTL freight between Calgary and Edmonton, and I know for a fact that an XJ will fit inside of a 53' trailer (we moved tons of repo cars all the time that way). I just don't know exactly what they charge thats all, but its cheaper than most any other means and you don't need to have a tow truck load it onto a flatdeck either, since our docks facilitate easy loading. LR

Looks like a good truck over all and bit of maintenance and care and it will be awesome.

Any plan to get rid of the black painted areas?

I hear you when you say its hard to get into new groups of people to wheel and do trips with. I'm the same way, quiet by nature and some people take that as being stand offish. I know have a small group of people I am comfortable doing trips with and its great, just need the time and money to get out now lol.

gonna still be on transit

well after a long day of travel
I got fly in a bigger plane , had nothing but excenlent service where ever I went and enjoyed the flight experience with west jet

the owner of the jeep met me at the airport brought me over to his very nice shop he has there and I started to pour over the jeep every thing was looking good (besides all the mud in and out lol dam flat landers and there mud) kidding of course

I did get to fully go ver the jeep while I waited for assitance after over heating(water pump packed it in thankfully only 10 k outside of Edmonton)

the winch works, sliders work(jacked the jeep up with the highlift) everything worked even the keyless entry the tires are at 99% still that kinda amazed me

needs some brake work and a lot of tlc mud inside and outside loose panels

so on to the next trip plan lol
need to get my hands on a 1 ton diesel so I can trailer it home (lost my confidence in driving it home)

the owner was veryhelpful and apoligetic for all the wasted time and money so I got the jeep for $500 less which ofset the cost of my trip out there

He offerd up his shop for me to repair it and his couch to spend the night if I needed (in hind sight I probably should have just done that and chance the drive home but being caught in the mountain passes with no brakes or a break down didnt sound apealing)

so tightend those up and rrrbrooooommm fired right up no more no bus message gauges all working :slap::slap::slap:

so moved on to reinstaling bumper and the winch just had to put four bolts back in changed out my headlamp for the H3 IPF ones I had kicken around

threw in the driver seat and went for a rip up and down my street
whooooo hooooo :party::party::party:

nice needs to get the front unit bearings changed out and get my cv axleshafts in there (driver side bearing is so pooched that the rotor is hitting the knuckle) and brakes suck big time

so tomorow night now I will take care of the front axle work
and front brakes pads calipers and rotors

and I may be doing a disk brake swap for the rear as soon as I get my hands on a zj rear axle (the drums on this thing are no doubt full of mud)

Sounds like you have not found the end to the damage that all that mud has done. Bearings and U joints sounds like victims as well.

I dont even have many pics of anything I done been to busy working on it

Reaper

the more i do the more i find needs doing

did the front brakes and axle shafts with unit bearings

the old shafts that came out had seized ujoints and what looked like mocha cream on the spline ends inside the pumpkin

I had plans for full fluid changes anyways

so after the that was all done went for a spin around the yard again
and yesterday when i drove it there was a really harsh clunk and bang from under the seats

well a little furhter investigation i found the cause and all i can do is shake my head at the way some people do things

the long arm lift has its own new tranny crossmember and mounts for the long arms well the factory cross member bolts to the unibody and i am gussesing when it was removed 3 out of 4 bolts broke and they never fixed that so the lift cm is bolted with one bolt and has 1" spacers put in that arent suposed to be there then the renforcement side plates that wrap around the cm and bolt to the same factory cm holes and wrap up the the sides and get bolted there too are Welded and very fricken poorly with almost no penatration

so I am gonaa need to cut the poor welds drop the tranny cross member
drill out 4 bolts or replace the nutcerts with new ones
then I also still have to drill new holes for the side support brackets and fish some nuts down the inside the frame

then drill out the broken bolts for the gas tank straps and so on and so on and so on lol

I expected some of this and i have the time so its good
I just hate crappy work that could have been down right with a little time

The jeep is coming along I got my grand cherokee backing plates ground out yesterday so today I can get the disk brakes put on

then I am on to exhaust and drilling some holes for the PROPER instalation of the lift kit
and I found I need 4 new shocks they all have been topped out and blown up and loose shafts
goto look and see what some 7" lift shocks are worth so it will have enough travel
Gonna go look at some body panels today fenders passenger side doors and a rear hatch

thats a great looking machine! its nice to have the talent to put something like that together. I hope all the things at home are going well. I know that its nice to have the toys but more important to have the family with you. I made mistakes in the past that showed me how much my family really meant and sometimes you don't realize that until they are not there. I build my toys to be inclusive of my family- as many creature comforts for them as possible! hopefully you will be able have fun with your rig without issue! looks great!

nope was a bc regi vehicle origanly it was a AB vehicle but the previous owner brought to the island lived there a year and had the inspec done before it was moded the brought it back to Edmonton and sent the regi and plates back to icbc and it would have not passsed a VI here or in ab when i got it here

and the insp wouldnt scare me I would just do it myself lol (its in the wifes name primary) so I can inspect it myself since we are not legal spouses hahahaha evil laugh but i would have still made sure it was safe :hunter:

as I was centering my steering wheel I had my son shake the steering wheel back and forth cuse I was hearing some weird creeking noise a quick look revield
:mad2:ONE FRICKEN BOLT:rant: holding the steering box on
aperntly one is broken the other is just not there.
looks like they removed it to put a bumper renforcement plate on and could only get the two bolts outand broke one so they had just modded the bracket to go around the bolts and never fixed the one they broke or put the other one back in :mad2:

fricken hell I hate dumb people :hunter::hunter:
hopefully I get some time this week to pull the box off make a better bumper tie in plate that will go over the box mount holes to reinforce them properly

other then all that it drives pretty nice for a jeep with 7.5" of lift
there are definitly some adjustment to be made

Reaper
11-29-2011, 08:07 PM
Looking around the net has given me some ideas for toughening up the steering

gonna make up reinforcement plates for the bumper that go farther back and become integral to the steering box mount
I will sandwich the frame around the box with a inner plate

I will next be doing a zj steering link upgrades as well flipping the tie rods to the top of the knuckles

great more money to spend
