Hello everyone.
Just a friendly non forum sponsored day trip, myself and a few others are going on a trip to Clear Creek to clean up a bit. If you wish to join us please do but also be open to picking up garbage once we get there.
We will be meeting at Tim Hortons (near Costco and Zellers) in Abbotsford (south side of the No.1 highway) on Sumas Way @ 9:00am. Cheap Costco gas for those of you needing a fill as well.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie...07741&t=h&z=18
We will be leaving at 9:00am sharp so be there early if you want to get coffee or fill up on gas.
Air Down at the turn off to Sasquatch Provincial Park around 9:45-10am. Right near the hicks lake turn off.
Bring Gloves, and any garbage bags you can.
Please bring your own lunch, I will bring a webber BBQ if anyone wants to use it.
All empties will be returned and the money collected from them will be used to off set the cost of the dumping costs.
If there is time we may also do some exploring so have all your normal recovery gear with you and a good tow point front and rear.
This is a family friendly meet and as with any run there will be no Alcohol or drugs permitted.
See you there!
Jeremy:olc:
Disclaimer: My self and OLC are not responsible for the actions or any damages/injures that participants may be in involved with. Participate at your own risk. (sorry for the disclaimer but had to do it)
Edited to reflect the change in food and garbage bags. Please bring your own lunch!

The one weekend I leave town to do something other than wheeling - I'll be in vegas, would have loved to drag the kids back out there though to show em what it looks like when it's cleaned up. I was up there about 3 weeks ago and there was still plenty of snow, I've heard reports it's pretty close to clear now though.

I'm still not 100% sure I really want to sell it, but if i do, I'm kicking around Xterra, Cherokee (most likely), Grand Cherokee, Discovery 1 or 2.

Cool well see if Mike is able to bring his beast or still has it next week and let you know. Not need to drag it along if its not needed.
I have no idea how much garbage is up there not sure if we would need a trailer and full size PU truck or not. Mike or anyone else that was up there have any idea?

Intresting post on Mud about the timing of this clean up.
Sad thing is with May long the following weekend, this clean up effort likely won't be recognizable 2 weeks later. Then the early summer grad parties always seem to lead to a couple more burnt cars up there .
Good points. Are we doing this at the wrong time of year? Would doing it later maybe early summer make the clean up last any longer?
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the burnt cars even if there a some there now. We do not have the equipment to drag those out.

In all honesty I wouldn't even touch the cars, just record the GPS location and report it to the RCMP. There is an issue in Wiaporous (Alberta) where some of those cars are stolen, so they are classified as crime scenes and if you try and clean it up or move it, you could be tampering with a crime scene.
It sucks that the grad parties do so much damage to the trails and give us proper users a bad name. +1 for you guys taking on the challenges of a clean up.
CT4WD normally schedules our clean ups for after the May long weekend, cause we have seen first hand the damage and garbage that the May Long mobs leave.

No clean-up is at the wrong time. If there is a ton of junk there, it will give the green lights to dump more. If it's clean, it's more likely that some will consider packing out what they brought in.

I agree. It's like saying "well, there's no point washing the dishes today, I'll just dirty them again tomorrow".
Jeremy

Any clean up you do is soon over run again with garbage and empty's, I agree there is never a wrong time to do it. If we wait till after may long then there is grad camp (little bastards), then after that its summer campers and parties......
I have been going on the 4WDABC clean up run for years on and off the one year I went every month it was like we had not been there a month before. Full bins, garbage all over the place, yahoos burning picnic benches we had made the month before.
Its a never ending battle, I just hope they get the picture soon so I can stop spending my money and gas cleaning up after them. Maybe get back to enjoying days exploring again rather than spending them cleaning up after the few that wish to ruin it for all.
I called the RCMP they do not want burnt cars touched or moved. If we can get a picture of the VIN and a GPS plot/description of its general areas they will follow up on it from there.

There is never a "good" time to clean up that place.
I'm still good with the 15th.
The place is just cover with empties, glass, scrap wood and general garbage.
The burnt cars that are up there have been up there for years... they have to be aware that they are up there.
FWIW, A few years ago we came across a JK that was freshly burnt sitting right in the middle of the road. We moved it over and on the way out we spotted a police car and let them know. That JK was removed promptly.
Lets just go for a fun run with a good bunch of people and help the place out since many don't.

I agree and that what I'm doing, would like to explore the area a bit more too if we have some time. Only been through there once on my way home from hahatlatch.
We all need to remember every bit we do helps but we will never make it pristine, we are just doing what we can with the time and tools we have.
Its just a fun run after all and a way to meet people we have talked to on the forum with a bit of a clean up.

So looks like some of or all the money collected from the empty cans and so on will need to be put towards off setting the cost to take the garbage to the dump. I cant get any information on the local dumps in Harrison area, none of the ones I contacted were interested in the clean up.
Can we have those attending bring there own lunch and any garbage bags they have or want to donate along?
I will bring a webber BBQ along with me that you are all welcome to use.
The main reason for the change is I do not want to be out of pocket for food and bags right now. The hit on fuel will be big enough as it is. I will bring along a few garbage bags as well.
The 4WDABC does not have any extra bags at the moment from the ministry so we are on our own.
Can we get a roll call of people planing on attending?
Thanks,
CrimsonCruiser

Well if my diesel SuperDuty can get in there, you shouldn't have any trouble bringing a trailer...might be nice to be able to put all garbage in one vehicle, and recycling in another for easier disposal?

I do not see you having any issue getting in there with that little trailer. Its up to you if you drag it along, I have never been there and have no idea what to expect in the way of garbage. We also are going to have to pay to dump this garbage so that's another issue.
I honestly think the supper duty will hold most the stuff we plan to pull out.

Have a safe and productive trip... don't forget to have fun. Take pics!

Hey what a day out! :fire
Got to meet some new faces, had sunny/cloudy/showers until we turned for home and came out with a full load of crap to.
In and out of Clear was the usuall nice drive and Jeremy was nice enough to tour some of us to the snow line on the road to Boston (Bar that is) :4x4:
I'm sure others will have pics etc... :olc:

I had a good day as well. Meet some new people and helped out a overused and abused site.
We took out a 2 large bags of empties, 5-6 bags of garbage and a truck full of scrap metal (everything from chairs, tables to a TV)
I think what needs to be done next is take a Sawsal up and cut up / take out the two old tubs. They are toast and don't need to be there. They are beyond repair... just a thought!
I felt that we made an impact... but I'm sure after next weekend we can take out a few more
Great work people!
Jeremy
05-16-2011, 10:41 AM
Yep great day out guys! Was nice meeting a few new faces.
I was surprised how much metal we pulled out of there......what is with people?
The burnt TV was the worst, unfortunately we had to leave part of it there as it was just to much of a risk to load and transport.
Both of those tubs have to go, there nasty and leaking. Not sure its really our place to take them out of there though. Would be cool to make some natural pools instead of those fiberglass ones.
Was really nice to get out again after a long winter stuck in the house. Also got to test out the new truck and see how she would do. Nothing about the clear creek trail was a challenge for a mild built truck. I'm sure Jeremy from Coastal Cruisers had a few moments his 2010 Tundra and wishing his 40 series was not in the garage is pieces.
Great day out, wish there had been a bit more participation but I had a nice day. :4x4:
