Well I scored a air pump off a VW Tourag and have been looking into the rest of the system to build around it.

I'm going to use this pump as the starting point. I do not know much about it other than it works. Kelly..... Steve any details on them? What is the operating range of this pump max psi and so on?

I am looking for a 2 gallon air tank and like the look and cost of the Viair tank.

The next thing is going to be the electrical, I again am looking at the Viair hook up kit.

The other option for the electrical is getting one of these pressure switches. Thinking 85-120psi would work and should not stress the pump out to much. I have or can make the rest of the electrical end of things.

This may not be a supper cheap set up but I'm still looking at used air tanks from 18 wheelers. I still want reliability and faster tire filling.

I plan on putting the Pump in the engine bay with a remote filter in the air box. The tank I think am going to mount under the truck above the axle. I will then have a air fitting front and rear.

Has any one ever used the nylon air brake stuff at Princes Auto? There all push lock and nylon line stuff. The line is rated at 300psi.

you should just convert your airconditioning into a compressor.... there is a thread on yotatech about how to do it... its one of my next projects... cost is about 100 bucks... i spoke with the guy who did the write up.. i can check it out in more detail for you if you want...

Thanks but A/C is one option my truck did not get. I am looking for an AC system out of a truck so I can have AC on the trail. I would rathre stick to this setup for now. Thanks for the heads up!!

I went to Sport Trucks Unlimited to check the pricing of the Viair install kit and tank. The install kit is $95cnd and the tank is $68, those two things with this pump will get most of the install done.

I'm not sure thinking about it having the tank is of any benefit to me for just airing up tires. Wondering what you guys think about just running the pump to a distribution block and then a line to the front and on the the back. I'm not planing on running any air tools so not sure if the tank is necessary. :headspin:

No huge benefit, it may help reduce the amount of on time with a reserve. If your planning on ARB's then a tank is the way to go IMO.

I run my ckma12 without a tank. I figure the compressor has to run either way. Either to fill the tank or to fill the tire.

A tank would be nice to reseat beads though.

Ah good point, I did not think of that. For the extra cost, it maybe worth it.

So I did some more price checking and I am not able to come up with any better deal locally than the Viair stuff from Sport Trucks. I could piece my own setup together but then there is the time to cost benefit. For now I am going to run the VW air pimp and the Viair install kit with tank. if I ever have a problem with the pump it will be an easy change to a Viair pump.

Yeah, I remember Steve printed off a bunch of stuff on it. I also think I have some info I can get to you... but may need to put it on memory stick due to size of the files.
