This looks like an awesome trip! I would love to head up there for a couple of weeks. I guess when you cross over into the NWT the road gets quite chalenging and is now unmaintained.
I have also seen some pictures of old trucks abandon along the road.

Good map of camping spots In the Yukon.

That camp ground north of the Arctic circle looks like it would be a neat spot to camp and say I camped in the Arctic circle.

Looking at all the area to see and places to go I would need at least a month up there. Looks like a great trip, very long distances though.

WOW, I just found this in my search for more info. From the sounds of it this area may not be open to motorized Vehicles for much longer :(.
Also I did not realize that there is no way to get from Norman Wells out in the summer if we were to make it all the way though. Doing it in the winter sounds almost impassible and is far to risky for a trip.

hey,
you actually considering this trip? i lived and worked in the yukon from 92 to 97. been past the turn off from the alaska highway to the canol road many times. i am very seriously looking at a trip up this fall (early oct) to dawson city and maybe up the dempster depending on time. probably take a side trip a ways up the canol road as well and take a look if i had a second vehicle with me. get in touch if you might be interested.
cheers, Trenton

due to my work schedual i will be going either the last 3 weeks in august or after october 5th....by oct i imagine snow up both the canol and the dempster so aug looks best for weather.
i have been to the roverlanders site and dont see them welcoming a jeep....but i am not sure...after reading the roverlanders planned expedition i can almost certainly say they wont welcome a jeep.
here is a link to their forum/thread on their trip. lots of info there.

anyway my plan would be just to get as far as the maintained road on the canol at Macmillan pass, the photos i have seen from that area are amazing. then back down the canol to ross river and turn north west and head out to carmacks. then carmacks north to dawson city and the bottom end of the dempster. i am not going to be building a boat and floating my jeep with trailer across any rivers but i will be driving across as many as i can.

They take all kinds. I wheeled with them a few times. They PREFER you have a Landrover but when it really comes down to it they know they are going to need a Jeep or Toyota around anyway.

I'm interested in this too ... as a "some day" trip ... I was thinking floating an ATV on it's trailer.
Anyway, Thanks guys for the info and links. And good luck with your trip Overland_YJ. :4x4:
