Hey Guys, I know most of us are all set on the CB radio setups we have...my is getting swapped out because I believe the crystals are gone in it and I know K might dump his Midland too.
I found out that I can source Cobra CBs through work, so far the pricing looks better than eBay and anything i have found in Canada. Let me know if you want to look at anything there, I'll let you know if I can get a decent price for you, save a few bucks in shipping or something.
A link for Cobra Canada

But that means everyone else needs to be on VHF.... and it cost more too doesn't it?

Yes you need a License too, the hard parts are not much more.

Ya, true enough. But it is getting more popular. Once you see the difference you'll wonder why you ever used a CB in the first place. Being able to monitor the logging truck traffic is a no-brainer safety issue for me as well.

After one too many close calls of almost becoming a hood ornament I decided to go VHF. I now consider it an essential part of modding any rig that's going to spend anytime on active logging roads.

What's the total cost on licensing and equipment? Is it like a CB where you dial in whatever channel you want?

Well the equipment ran me $400 which seems to be about average. The licensing varies but I've actually seen courses run for free.

I think around $100 bucks is average though. I forgot about how much it all cost me the first time I pulled over and let a logging truck past a full 5 minutes before I ever saw him coming though. Lol. That and talking to my buddies 30 or 40km away.

I do like those ideas for sure.... will be something to consider....

I say we start looking into that, I'd like to know a bit more about it. But it is something we all have to be on board with to make the most of it.

I bought my equipment from Com-West on Main street just north of Marine. Very helpful.

Got to look into one of these VHF setups.

I have seen them used and know there have awesome range. That and know were logging trucks are is a huge bonus.

Kelly VHF dose not have channels it used Frequency so you have lots and lots of different ones to pic. I know that you can also use them though repeater networks and even make phone calls some how.

I can actually send digital data with mine like email and photos although I have yet to figure out how. lol

So, got my Cobra CB and used it the other weekend... worked great! No more dead spots while chatting... well, only when Dave was on his Cell phone, we couldn't hear what anyone was saying.
